The course

A point-to-point tour of Pittsburgh's rivers and bridges, run with the marathon for the first 10 miles. It starts downtown on Liberty Avenue and heads out through the Strip District towards Lawrenceville, then crosses the Allegheny on the 16th Street Bridge to the North Side, past the stadiums on North Shore Drive. Back over the Ohio to the West End, the course runs flat along Carson Street through Station Square and the South Side. At the Birmingham Bridge the half leaves the marathon and climbs into Oakland: the one real hill of the day, around miles 11–12. From Fifth Avenue it is downhill most of the way back downtown to finish on the Boulevard of the Allies by Point State Park. Route map and elevation profile below.
