The course
A point-to-point half from Edinburgh's Old Town to Musselburgh, run on the same day as the Edinburgh Marathon. It starts on Potterrow by the University of Edinburgh and heads through the Old Town past Greyfriars and across the Royal Mile, through Princes Street Gardens, then back past Holyrood and the Scottish Parliament under Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags. The course drops about 90 m towards the sea in the early miles and heads east along the Portobello promenade, through Musselburgh and into East Lothian, turning at Prestonpans and coming back to finish on the playing fields of Pinkie St Peter's Primary School in Musselburgh. After the early descent it is largely flat along the coast. Route map and elevation profile below.
