The course
A 63 km (39.3 mile) point-to-point road ultra through the heart of Connemara. It starts in Recess and heads up the Inagh Valley beside Lough Inagh, under the Twelve Bens and the Maumturks, then makes an out-and-back to Rosroe Pier at the mouth of Killary Harbour. From Leenane at the head of the fjord it joins the half-marathon route for the final stretch over to Maam Cross. The roads roll most of the way, with about 570 m of climbing, and the hardest hill, the Hell of the West, comes in the last few kilometres. Exposed bog and mountain country: wind and weather matter as much as the hills. Route map and elevation profile below.
